Sauna, Cold Plunge & Hot Tub Benefits: Why a Wellness Deck Day Is the Reset Your Nervous System Needs
Slow down. Breathe deeply. Reconnect with nature, yourself and the people who matter most.
Why Visit a Wellness Deck?
When was the last time you spent two hours without checking your phone?
No emails.
No notifications.
No endless scrolling.
Just fresh air, meaningful conversation and time to simply be.
Modern life asks us to be switched on almost every minute of the day. Between work, family commitments, social media and the constant buzz of technology, many of us are living with overwhelmed nervous systems without even realising it.
That's why we created the Wellness Deck at Self Love Retreat.
Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Scenic Rim, our private outdoor wellness space combines the restorative benefits of a traditional sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, outdoor shower and the healing power of nature.
Whether you're looking to reduce stress, recover after exercise, celebrate with friends or enjoy quality time with your partner, the Wellness Deck is an invitation to slow down and reconnect.
Because sometimes the greatest form of self-care isn't adding more to your schedule.
It's creating space to do less.
What Is Contrast Therapy?
One of the fastest-growing wellness practices around the world is contrast therapy.
Contrast therapy involves alternating between heat and cold—typically moving between a traditional sauna and a cold plunge—to support circulation, recovery and relaxation.
Many people choose to repeat this cycle several times before finishing with time in the hot tub or simply relaxing outdoors.
While everyone's experience is unique, many guests leave feeling calmer, more energised and surprisingly refreshed.
More importantly, contrast therapy creates an opportunity to pause.
To slow your breathing.
To become present.
To step away from the constant stimulation of modern life.

Traditional Sauna Benefits
There's something deeply comforting about stepping into the warmth of a traditional sauna.
As your body gently heats up, your muscles begin to relax, your circulation increases and your mind naturally starts to quieten.
For many people, it's the first moment all week they've truly stopped.
Some of the benefits of regular sauna sessions may include:
-
Supporting healthy circulation
-
Relaxing tight muscles and stiff joints
-
Encouraging deep relaxation
-
Supporting exercise recovery
-
Helping ease everyday stress
-
Leaving your skin looking fresh and radiant
-
Creating a sense of calm and wellbeing
Our traditional sauna isn't about rushing through another wellness trend.
It's about giving yourself permission to slow down.

Cold Plunge Benefits
The cold plunge is often the experience people are most nervous about...
...and the one they end up loving the most.
The moment you step into cold water, everything else fades away.
Your to-do list disappears.
Your attention shifts to your breathing.
For a few moments, you're completely present.
Many people enjoy cold water immersion because it may help:
-
Reduce muscle soreness after exercise
-
Support healthy circulation
-
Increase alertness and energy
-
Reduce feelings of fatigue
-
Build resilience through controlled breathing
-
Leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated
The goal isn't to push yourself beyond your limits.
It's to gently explore what's possible while listening to your body.
If it's your first cold plunge, that's completely okay.
Go at your own pace.
Hot Tub Benefits
After moving between heat and cold, the warm embrace of the hot tub feels even more luxurious.
It's a chance to completely unwind while surrounded by fresh country air and peaceful mountain views.
This is where conversations linger.
Where laughter comes easily.
Where time seems to slow down.
The warm water may help:
-
Relax tired muscles
-
Encourage stress relief
-
Support healthy circulation
-
Ease physical tension
-
Create a deep sense of comfort and relaxation
Sometimes the best therapy is simply sitting together without being distracted.
The Beauty of an Outdoor Shower
There is something surprisingly grounding about showering outdoors.
Feeling cool water on your skin while listening to birdsong and breathing fresh country air reminds us how healing nature can be.
The outdoor shower allows you to refresh between each experience while staying connected to the beautiful landscape around you.
It's simple.
It's refreshing.
And it's often one of our guests' favourite parts of the day.

The Healing Power of Nature
Nature asks nothing of us.
It simply invites us to slow down.
Research has shown that spending time in green spaces may help support mental wellbeing, reduce stress and improve mood.
But beyond the science, there's something many of us instinctively know.
We feel different after spending time outdoors.
Our breathing slows.
Our shoulders soften.
Our thoughts become quieter.
Our Wellness Deck has been intentionally designed to help you experience exactly that.
Surrounded by rolling hills, open skies and fresh air, it's a reminder that sometimes healing begins the moment we step outside.
How Heat, Cold and Nature Support Your Nervous System
Your nervous system is constantly responding to the world around you.
Busy schedules.
Traffic.
Notifications.
Work deadlines.
Even when we're resting, our minds are often still racing.
Creating intentional moments of rest allows your body to shift out of "doing mode" and into a state of recovery.
Practices like sauna bathing, cold immersion and spending time in nature may help:
-
Reduce everyday stress
-
Encourage relaxation
-
Improve mood
-
Support healthy circulation
-
Ease muscle tension
-
Promote better sleep
-
Improve mental clarity
-
Support overall wellbeing
Perhaps the greatest benefit isn't any single wellness modality.
It's giving yourself permission to pause.

More Than Wellness-It's Human Connection
We didn't create the Wellness Deck simply because saunas and cold plunges are popular.
We created it because genuine connection is becoming increasingly rare.
We spend hours looking at screens.
We reply to messages instead of having conversations.
We share photos instead of sharing experiences.
Technology has given us incredible opportunities.
But it has also reminded us just how valuable real human connection truly is.
The Wellness Deck creates space for:
Long conversations.
Comfortable silence.
Uninterrupted laughter.
Deep breaths.
Moments you'll remember long after the day is over.
Whether you visit with your partner, your closest friends, your family or your work team, our hope is that you leave feeling more connected than when you arrived.
Not because of the sauna.
Not because of the cold plunge.
But because you made time for each other.
